Software Engineer interview prep for Infosys.

Software Engineers at Infosys deliver large-scale digital transformation and enterprise application engineering for Fortune 500 clients worldwide. Hiring is bifurcated into two distinct tracks: Campus / Early Career hiring (categorized into Systems Engineer - SE, Digital Specialist Engineer - DSE, and Specialist Programmer - SP tiers via HackWithInfy and Springboard assessments) and Lateral hiring (Job Levels JL3 through JL6 assessing production software architecture, full-stack technologies, and client delivery). Preparation must match your entry path.

WHAT INTERVIEWERS ARE LOOKING FOR

Signals to make easy to see.

Use your examples and technical answers to surface these strengths. You do not need to force every signal into every response.

01

Core Programming & Data Structures (Arrays, strings, searching, sorting, trees, and algorithmic efficiency)

02

Object-Oriented Design & CS Foundations (OOP principles, database normalization, SQL queries, and basic computer networks)

03

Aptitude, Analytical Thinking & Pseudocode (Mathematical reasoning, logical deduction, and code output prediction for campus rounds)

04

Communication, Professionalism & C-LIFE Values (Client orientation, adaptability, continuous learning, and clear verbal explanation)

A strong practice outcome

A clean, working solution to a standard algorithmic challenge or enterprise scenario with clear explanation of logic, time complexity, and boundary edge cases.

A PRACTICAL PREPARATION PLAN

Practise the loop in the right order.

This plan gives you enough structure to prepare steadily while leaving room to adapt to your current experience and interview date.

  1. 01

    Programming Fundamentals & Data Structures

Practice core array, string, linked list, tree, and hashing problems in your preferred language (Java, Python, or C++).

  2. 02

Aptitude & Pseudocode Drills (Campus Candidates)

Practice quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, and time-bounded pseudocode tracing exercises.

  3. 03

Core CS Subjects: OOP, DBMS & SQL

Review object-oriented concepts (polymorphism, abstraction), database normalization, indexing, and complex SQL joins.

  4. 04

Project Walkthrough & C-LIFE Behavioral Rehearsal

Prepare a deep 5-minute explanation of your key projects, detailing architecture, challenges overcome, and client impact.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

How the Infosys loop usually unfolds.

The number and order of rounds can vary by team, level, and location. Use this as a preparation map, not a guarantee.

01

Online Assessment Test

30–90 min
Round 1
Infosys process

How to prepare: A 95-minute test with 7 sections: puzzles, pseudocode-based logical output questions, quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, grammar, and a short essay. Performance here determines which track (Systems Engineer, Digital Specialist Engineer, or Specialist Programmer) a candidate is considered for.

02

Coding Round (DSE/SP tracks)

30–90 min
Round 2
Infosys process

How to prepare: For the higher Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer tracks, a dedicated 3-hour proctored round with 3 coding problems (Easy, Medium, Hard) spanning arrays, dynamic programming, and graph problems. Solving 2 or more well often clears the bar for Specialist Programmer.

03

Technical Interview

30–90 min
Round 3
Infosys process

How to prepare: A 30-45 minute round reviewing the logic from the coding round plus CS fundamentals: OOP, DBMS, operating systems, and networking, along with an in-depth discussion of resume projects.

04

HR Interview

30–90 min
Round 4
Infosys process

How to prepare: A 15-30 minute closing round covering self-introduction, motivation for joining Infosys, a 5-year career plan, and willingness to relocate to the assigned location, typically evaluated using the STAR method.

PRACTISE THE QUESTIONS BEHIND THE LOOP

Questions worth rehearsing aloud.

These examples test the kind of clarity a software engineer needs to show. Use them to practise your structure, not to memorise a script.

Infosys segments its early-career hiring into three distinct tiers: 1) Systems Engineer (SE): Focuses on aptitude (reasoning, quantitative, verbal ability), pseudocode debugging, and fundamental programming concepts. Technical interviews evaluate core CS subjects (OOP, DBMS, SQL, basic data structures) and academic project contributions; 2) Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE): Involves hands-on coding tests with medium-difficulty algorithmic problems (greedy algorithms, dynamic programming, tree traversals) and interviews emphasizing modern application stacks (Java/Spring Boot, Python, modern JS) and database optimization; 3) Specialist Programmer (SP): High-intensity competitive programming path accessed primarily via HackWithInfy. Tests feature hard-level data structure challenges (graphs, segment trees, advanced DP). Note: Infosys does not publish static percentage cutoffs; qualifying thresholds fluctuate dynamically by hiring cycle and business demand.
