A PRACTICAL PREPARATION PLAN
This plan gives you enough structure to prepare steadily while leaving room to adapt to your current experience and interview date.
Practice core Java (collections, OOP, exceptions) and Selenium WebDriver locators (XPath, CSS selectors).
Build a modular POM framework with TestNG, Cucumber BDD, and Data-Driven Excel integration.
Practice automating GET, POST, PUT, DELETE requests, JSON schema validation, and token authentication.
Configure headless test execution in Jenkins, analyze test execution reports, and rehearse client QA scenarios.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
The number and order of rounds can vary by team, level, and location. Use this as a preparation map, not a guarantee.
How to prepare: A 95-minute test with 7 sections: puzzles, pseudocode-based logical output questions, quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, grammar, and a short essay. Performance here determines which track (Systems Engineer, Digital Specialist Engineer, or Specialist Programmer) a candidate is considered for.
How to prepare: For the higher Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer tracks, a dedicated 3-hour proctored round with 3 coding problems (Easy, Medium, Hard) spanning arrays, dynamic programming, and graph problems. Solving 2 or more well often clears the bar for Specialist Programmer.
How to prepare: A 30-45 minute round reviewing the logic from the coding round plus CS fundamentals: OOP, DBMS, operating systems, and networking, along with an in-depth discussion of resume projects.
How to prepare: A 15-30 minute closing round covering self-introduction, motivation for joining Infosys, a 5-year career plan, and willingness to relocate to the assigned location, typically evaluated using the STAR method.
PRACTISE THE QUESTIONS BEHIND THE LOOP
These examples test the kind of clarity a qa engineer needs to show. Use them to practise your structure, not to memorise a script.
1) Base Layer: Create a `BaseTest` class to manage WebDriver initialization, browser capabilities, thread-safe driver instances (`ThreadLocal<WebDriver>`), and teardown; 2) Page Object Classes: Separate web page locators and user interactions into dedicated page classes. Methods represent business actions (e.g., `login(username, password)`) and return page objects for method chaining; 3) Synchronization: Eliminate `Thread.sleep()`; implement dynamic explicit waits (`WebDriverWait` with `ExpectedConditions`); 4) Data-Driven Layer: Externalize test data using Apache POI (Excel) or JSON fixtures with TestNG `@DataProvider`; 5) Reporting & Utilities: Integrate ExtentReports or Allure for screenshots on test failure, and configure `testng.xml` for parallel test execution across browser grids.
