Frontend Developer interview prep for Amazon.

Frontend Engineers at Amazon build responsive, reliable shopping and AWS cloud console web experiences for hundreds of millions of global customers. The interview loop evaluates deep JavaScript/TypeScript fundamentals, client state management, Core Web Vitals optimization, accessibility, and the ability to connect frontend architecture directly to customer trust and business outcomes.

WHAT INTERVIEWERS ARE LOOKING FOR

Signals to make easy to see.

Use your examples and technical answers to surface these strengths. You do not need to force every signal into every response.

01

Customer Obsession in User Experience (Resilience under slow 3G network conditions, zero layout shift, seamless checkout)

02

Web Architecture & Component Engineering (Modular component libraries, micro-frontends, state synchronization)

03

Performance & Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS optimization, bundle reduction, resource hints)

04

Leadership Principles & Product Empathy (STAR behavioral stories demonstrating bias for action and earning customer trust)

A strong practice outcome

A high-performance, accessible web application architecture designed to operate reliably under extreme traffic spikes during Amazon Prime Day.

A PRACTICAL PREPARATION PLAN

Practise the loop in the right order.

This plan gives you enough structure to prepare steadily while leaving room to adapt to your current experience and interview date.

  1. 01

    JavaScript & DOM Core Mastery

Master event bubbling, DOM reconciliation, async/await event loop microtask sequencing, and web worker offloading.

  2. 02

    Frontend System Design

Practice designing scalable client systems (checkout flow, search autocomplete with debouncing, infinite scroll feed).

  3. 03

    Performance & Resilience Profiling

Learn DevTools performance profiling, lighthouse auditing, image optimization, and Service Worker caching strategies.

  4. 04

    Leadership Principles Application

Prepare STAR narratives highlighting customer obsession, bias for action, and uncompromising high standards in frontend engineering.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

How the Amazon loop usually unfolds.

The number and order of rounds can vary by team, level, and location. Use this as a preparation map, not a guarantee.

01

Online Assessment (OA)

30–90 min
Round 1
Amazon process

How to prepare: A 90-minute online test with around 20 MCQs (with negative marking) on quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, and CS fundamentals, plus 2 coding problems. Many candidates also get a work-simulation module that drops them into a mock workday of team emails and task threads to assess judgment and prioritization.

02

Technical Interview Round 1

30–90 min
Round 2
Amazon process

How to prepare: A coding-focused round covering data structures and algorithms (arrays, strings, trees, graphs, dynamic programming). The interviewer expects a working, optimized solution with clear discussion of time and space complexity, and usually includes at least one Leadership Principle-based behavioral question.

03

Technical Interview Round 2

30–90 min
Round 3
Amazon process

How to prepare: A second DSA/coding round, often paired with an in-depth discussion of the candidate's projects or resume. May include basic system design or object-oriented design questions for entry-level roles, alongside more Leadership Principle behavioral questions.

04

Bar Raiser Round

30–90 min
Round 4
Amazon process

How to prepare: Conducted by a senior Amazonian from outside the hiring team, specifically trained to keep the hiring bar consistent across the company. Mixes deep technical questions with detailed STAR-format behavioral questions mapped to specific Leadership Principles.

05

HR / Leadership Principles Round

30–90 min
Round 5
Amazon process

How to prepare: Final round focused almost entirely on behavioral and situational questions testing alignment with Amazon's 16 Leadership Principles, along with compensation, location preferences, and overall fit.

PRACTISE THE QUESTIONS BEHIND THE LOOP

Questions worth rehearsing aloud.

These examples test the kind of clarity a frontend developer needs to show. Use them to practise your structure, not to memorise a script.

First, identify the LCP candidate element—typically the main product hero image or title block. Implement Server-Side Rendering (SSR) or Static Site Generation (SSG) with edge caching via CloudFront CDN to deliver HTML with zero client bootstrap latency. Preload the primary hero image with `<link rel='preload' as='image' fetchpriority='high'>` directly in the document `<head>`. Serve responsive, modern image formats (AVIF/WebP) sized via `srcset` and `sizes`. Defer non-critical JavaScript (analytics, reviews, recommendations) using dynamic imports and asynchronous chunk loading, ensuring the browser main thread remains unblocked during visual rendering.
