Campus hiring is anchored by the TCS National Qualifier Test (NQT), which segments candidates into three distinct cadres: Ninja (~3.36–3.6 LPA), Digital (~7–7.5 LPA), and Prime (~9–11.5 LPA) based on cognitive and advanced coding performance. Lateral hiring (Bands C1 through C4) emphasizes production full-stack engineering, cloud platforms, and enterprise delivery.

A PRACTICAL PREPARATION PLAN
This plan gives you enough structure to prepare steadily while leaving room to adapt to your current experience and interview date.
Practice time-managed numerical ability, logical deduction, and verbal reasoning modules with zero negative marking strategy.
Solve 50+ medium programming problems in Java/Python focusing on strings, matrices, arrays, dynamic programming, and recursion.
Review object-oriented design, ACID properties, indexing, SQL queries (GROUP BY, HAVING, JOINS), and operating systems.
Structure your primary project using the STAR method, explaining individual architectural contributions and client value.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
The number and order of rounds can vary by team, level, and location. Use this as a preparation map, not a guarantee.
How to prepare: Online assessment covering quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning, verbal ability, and a foundational/advanced coding section, used to shortlist candidates for further rounds.
How to prepare: Discussion on core computer science fundamentals including OOP concepts, data structures, DBMS/SQL, Java, and a walkthrough of the candidate's academic or personal projects.
How to prepare: Discussion focused on problem-solving approach, project ownership, teamwork, and readiness to work across TCS's technology tracks (e.g., Ninja, Digital).
How to prepare: Final round covering background, academic performance, willingness to relocate, career goals, and overall fit with TCS.
PRACTISE THE QUESTIONS BEHIND THE LOOP
These examples test the kind of clarity a software engineer needs to show. Use them to practise your structure, not to memorise a script.
The TCS Integrated NQT is a ~190-minute computer-based assessment comprising two main sections: 1) Part A (Foundation Section - ~75 mins): Assesses Numerical Ability (25m), Verbal Ability (25m), and Reasoning Ability (25m). There is generally no negative marking, and questions cannot be skipped arbitrarily due to adaptive navigation; 2) Part B (Advanced Section - ~115 mins): Features Advanced Quantitative and Reasoning Ability (35m) followed by Advanced Coding (80m with 2 programming challenges); 3) Cadre Allocation: Performance across both parts determines placement: candidates performing well on Foundation qualify for the Ninja Cadre interview (~3.5 LPA); candidates excelling in the Advanced section and solving the coding challenges qualify for Digital Cadre (~7 LPA) or the elite Prime Cadre (~9–11.5 LPA) interviews. Note: TCS does not publish static percentage cutoffs; qualifying scores are calibrated dynamically by hiring season and regional pool.
